Freezing Kitten Visits Fire Station For Help
Firemen are known for saving cats in distress, which is possibly why this freezing stray headed straight to the fire station when she needed some help.
Firemen at Steinbach Fire Department in Manitoba, Canada, were surprised to see a four-legged visitor peeping through their window last month. Temperature here regularly dip below zero in winter months with regular snow, and this shivering creature appeared desperate to be let indoors.
“I was walking and noticed her at the window,” fire chief Kelvin Toews told Love Meow. When one of his crew members cracked open the door, the weary kitten bounded inside and made herself right at home.
Unfortunately, Steinbach isn’t staffed round the clock, so the kitten – despite having already endeared herself to the rest of the firehouse crew – couldn’t live here full-time. Instead this bedraggled stray went home with the fire chief, a veteran cat owner who knew this sweet but bedraggled creature needed a bath, food, warm bed, and a vet appointment stat.
Amazingly, this tiny survivor had managed to ride out a Canadian winter with just a little frostbite on her ears, per the vet, who otherwise — after administering her vaccinations and later a spay — gave this cute kitten a clean bill of health. Meanwhile, the whole station chipped in with a massive social media effort intended to help their pretty mascot find a new forever home.
According to Facebook, these efforts seemed to have paid off, because Ember – who looks significantly healthier than she did when she first showed up at the firehouse – seems to have found a loving family with children eager to give this frisky kitten all the love and snuggles she deserves!
